March Diary

Well, it's first of March it's supposed to be the first day of Spring. It doesn't much feel like it. It's a bit slippery underfoot still but at least the days are drawing out. I've been thinking about how to get images of the larger animals (muntjac, fox, rabbit) that prowl the wood and its environs in the dark. My ideas are coming into focus using a PIR device (passive infra-red) to detect the animals then operating a camera to photograph them. More later if it comes to fruition.

Chaffinch m/fIt's the March equinox now (21st) and we've had a several days good weather. I've been looking for the first flowers of Spring but all I've seen is some white blossom on the Blackthorn (before the leaves) and a solitary Dandelion flower smiling at the morning Sun. Mind you, the Goat Willow by the kissing gate has catkins on it. I guess that's a flower too. Pale green Wood Sorrel caught my eye too, no flowers though.

There is a lot of birdsong and I saw a pair of Chaffinches today. Not so common in Furzefield but said to be the most common bird in the land, for some reason.
